
Max grew up in Massachusetts, went to college in New Orleans, got his MFA in West Virginia and lives in New York. He has trained with many wonderful teachers from the Actors Center, Michael Howard Studios, and the Joseph Chaikin Workshop. He has studied clown and mask with Norman Taylor, Chris Bayes, Jim Calder, and Per Brahe.
Max is a company member at New Jersey Rep, where he has performed on their mainstage, Theater Brut, and in multiple staged readings.
Max is also a company member of Greenbrier Valley Theater where he performed in over 20 equity productions in such roles as Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, Jamie in Long Day's Journey Into Night, and Fagin in Oliver among many others.
Max played a leading role in the indie feature Upstate-- official selection at the LA Film Festival, released through the Sundance Channel. He toured his play Daydream across the Canadian Fringe receiving four star reviews.
He directed Urinetown and Into the Woods for the Brooklyn Players- a theater company in Park Slope.
Max appeared in Susan Bernfield's Barking Girl (New Georges) at New York Theater Workshop. For Synapse Theater Ensemble he was featured in the off-the- wall comedy On the Rocks. At Theater for the New City, Max perfomed in L'Chayim (directed by Jesse Marchese).
For Lynn Thomson, Max performed in Exodus Code --- a flashback to the heyday of Yiddish Vaudeville--- at The Flea Theater. "The humor is played out in various vaudeville sketches by the talented and deft ensemble... moving and evocative." The Huffington Post. For the same company, Max appeared in A Time-Traveller's Trip to Niagara at the Hudson Guild Theater.
Max has participated in several readings of established and emerging playwrights. He worked for the Writer's Bloc at NJ Rep for two seasons- reading the work of five different playwrights. Spinning off from that, he performed a reading of Margaret Hunt's Loose Cannons at The Actors Studio, and then again at NJ Rep. He participated in a developmental reading of Sam and Dede (or My Dinner with Andre the Giant) by Gino DiIorio also at NJ Rep. Max read the title role in Frank Gagliano's The Private Eye of Hiram Bodoni at New Dramatists. Following that, he read the multitrack male part in The Total Immersion of Madeleine Favorini at New Dramatists with Antoinette LaVeccia.
